14 psi or 1-bar (.965264 bar to be exact) is the most you'd want to run on that bad boy....and not for very long either.
so 1 Bar is pushing the engines limit's or just the turbo. i thought u could go higher as long as the turbo was upgraded. how much could the stock engine itself take without having to worry about cracking the head or something? assuming we got an invincible turbo on there

I always thought it was a t28-sized turbo with a t3 flange.

We'll see how long until he ends up with ceramic bits and pieces in the intercooler.

I don't know much about the RB20, but I could have sworn that 1 bar was about as high as you'd want to go.

Hi:

I will put my 2 cents in here, mostly as that is all it can be sold for on E-bay.

The RB20 turbo is not a Garrett turbo as you know them to be. My guess is it isn't even made by Garrett. The only part of the turbo that is similar to anything we know as Garrett is the exh. manifold flange. The rest is custom made for Nissan by...? There are no markings on the center section or turbine housing indicating manufacturer. The center housing's design is different than any other turbo I have seen.

The compressor housing is marked NISSAN not Garrett. This turbo is not a T25, T28, or T3. It only interchanges with the RB25, VG20DET, VG30DET. There is no interchangeability with the standard Garrett turbos other than some custom install.

The turbine is ceramic and the compressor is aluminum, exept for the Series II RB25, that compressor is plastic. It is a ball bearing turbo, my guess twin ball. This turbo is not serviceable.

These Nissan turbos are most likely one of the sturdiest turbos ever built. We have yet to break one. Not to say that even a little detonation will destroy a ceramic turbine.

One can run alot of boost with these turbos without damage as long as the detonation doesn't break the turbine wheel. Of course the turbo's efficiency is toast at slightly over 14psi. That doesn't mean you can't run 18psi at 4k, you just won't make 40 more hp than 14psi at 4k rpm.

The Kouki RB25 turbo is so far my favorite turbo ever. Where can you buy a turbo for $350 that will make full boost at 2500 rpm, on a 2.5L gas engine, have a flat torque curve to 6800, while making 245lb ft. of torque at 12psi? No-where!

Keep in mind, the turbine wheel is what's ceramic, not the compressor wheel. When you break a ceramic turbine wheel under load/full throttle from running too much boost, you usually just get a naturally aspirated car. Swap out the turbo, no problem.

Usually.
